#57 COMMON LASH MYTHS

In an industry growing as fast as it is, so much information can get thrown around that it can be hard to do decipher what's actually correct or not.

Here are some common myths in the world of lashes that can help you to ensure you get the best results!

❌ MYTH ❌

Red eyes after service is normal or is an allergic reaction.

✅ TRUTH ✅

Red eyes are typically caused by fumes from the glue or the pad / tape has been too high and rubbed against the eyeball.

❌ MYTH ❌

Lash Adhesives are formaldehyde free.

✅ TRUTH ✅

Very few adhesives have formaldehyde added to the glue. Formaldehyde is the result of a chemical reaction which naturally occurs / develops as the cyanoacrylate cures.

❌ MYTH ❌

Lash extensions ruin the natural lashes and clients should take ‘breaks’ from them.

✅ TRUTH ✅

Lash extensions will ONLY damage the natural lashes if they are not correctly applied.

Correctly applied would mean;

• No stickies (lashes stuck together)

• Correct quantity of glue use

• Length no more than 2-4mm longer than the natural lash

• Weight of extension not exceeding 0.15-0.18 (dependant on the natural lash thickness)

❌ MISTAKE ❌

Doing beautiful lashes will make me successful.

✅ TRUTH ✅

Yes, being an amazing technician will bring and retain customers. But to be successful in the lash industry you ALSO need to be amazing at business. You are a business owner and not just a lash technician. Just like knowing a variety of techniques and methods will make you a great technician, the same applies with business. They are two completely different subjects and you should be just as knowledgeable in business as you are in lashes.

❌ MYTH ❌

Face Masks prevent the inhalation of glue fumes.

✅ TRUTH ✅

Some face masks can actually do more harm than good with glue fumes. Cyanoacrylate reacts to cotton (You Tube it!! It’s fascinating!) causing heat and more fumes that you could potentially breath in.

The cute and charcoal masks are actually designed to prevent the transmittance of airborne viruses, bacteria, dust and will not filter ALL chemicals in the air from glue. So you should still be wearing one. They will help to a small degree with the glue fumes too.

Another thing to use in your room to prevent the inhalation of glue fumes is making sure you have an adequate air exhaust / extractor in your room.

In order to totally prevent the inhalation of glue fumes you actually need a specifically designed gas mask.

❌ MISTAKE ❌

I have to charge lower so I get clients / or because that is what everyone else in my area is charging.

✅ TRUTH ✅

You are worth what you charge. You will be judged by your prices (low prices = low quality). We have written numerous blogs on this subject. Have a read of some …
