Lash Glue Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Which lash glue is right for me?

Which Eyelash glue is best for me?

What is the best Eyelash Extension Glue in Australia?

The Holy Grail Premium Eyelash Extension Glue is Australia's best selling and most trusted glue! Demand for this glue is so high we never have it on our shelves very long meaning you always get a very fresh glue!

      We have since developed:

What eyelash glue is best for sensitive eyes?

Our Holy Nude Sensitive glue is specially designed to have no pigment in it to make it more sensitive. This makes it is a clear glue. The pigment in lash glues is sometimes what can be irritating some customers.

How long does eyelash extension glue last?

A bottle which has been opened has the shelf life (depending on the manufacturer) of about 4 weeks. If you keep the glue in a place where moisture will penetrate it too much, the glue will age more rapidly. It is best to store the glue in the packet it came delivered with, including a moisture absorber inside the packaging, and in a cool place like a drawer (not a fridge). Once that 4 weeks has elapsed, we recommend disposing of that bottle of glue (even if there's still product left inside) and opening a new bottle.

Ensuring that a build-up of glue does not form around the nozzle is also a contributing factor in how long your glue lasts. A large build-up of glue does not allow the lid to be screwed on tightly, thus moisture from the air has more of a chance to seep into your glue. We recommend that after each use you gently wipe the top to remove any excess glue before placing the lid back on tightly.

A little lash tech tip to keep in mind - because of the way the chemicals are composed in a cyanoacrylate adhesive and it’s reactions to the atmosphere once exposed, a very thin layer of glue will bond (stick) more quickly and effectively than a thicker one. A thicker layer will not cure (set) properly.

Isn't that interesting?! It could be one explanation to the problem of a client's lashes falling off quicker than other clients' lashes (this is not the only cause, but it could be one cause that you investigate). With that said, if you put glue on too thick, it will not cure on the natural lashes correctly.

How long does eyelash extension glue last?

The shelf life, if stored in a cool dry place, is approximately 6 months UNOPENED.

If stored in the fridge at a temp of 13C, the shelf life can be from 12-15 months if UNOPENED.

Research has shown that storing your glue in the freezer at -20C (which is about the average home freezer temp) unopened, the glue can almost have an unlimited shelf life. Be mindful that despite plenty of research being invested into this hypothesis, this is not fully proven.

However, it is important to note that cyanoacrylate adhesives are moisture sensitive.

This means that when moisture and the chemicals in the cyanoacrylate adhesive mix together, this will make the glue set or cure. Moisture will occur from the fridge and you will also create moisture moving the glue from a cool location (ie, the fridge) to a warmer location (your room). So that the moisture will not get into your glue bottle, it is best once you remove it from the fridge to allow the adhesive to reach room temperature before you open the bottle.

⚠️ Head's up! Putting your glue back into the fridge after it has been opened may cause moisture from the air to condense in the bottle, so don't do that.

Learn more about glues (and how to get the most out of them!)

READ: A FEW AWESOME LASH EXTENSION GLUE TIPS

We just thought we would share a few little tips to help you get better retention and a glue that suits your environment perfectly …

      1. MIXING GLUES

Did you know you can mix your glues? Yeeeeep and it works amazing. If you find maybe you get great retention from one particular glue but maybe it dries too fast and another different glue you love the speed. You can mix them to create the perfect glue just for you.

For example using our Pro Glue (our fastest glue) with our Holy Grail. Two ultimate retention glues together is like Iron Man and Captain America working together to save the world!!

We can’t offer advise as to the quantities to mix them, but only do it drop by drop and when you are using it. For example place a small dot of one glue on your crystal and then place the second glue dot into it. You could mix with a tooth pick or something.

Have a go. Experiment a little!

      2. USING A GLUE PLATE

We conducted an experiment a while back of what surface does glue last longer on once exposed to air … a glue plate on top of a jade stone or crystal kicked butt.

      We tried

The fresher you can encourage your glue to be, the better your retention will be. We still recommending to change your glue dot every 10-15mins (depending on your environment).

      3. SHAKE IT BABY

A couple of shakes often doesn’t do the glue justice. It needs to be shhhhhhaaakkkkeeen. The more you shake the better the glue. I would even recommending giving it another shake mid set when refreshing your dot.

Glue should be a nice rich dark black. If it isn’t then it means the particles have separated slightly, so you need to put them all back together again.

So shhhhaaakkkkeeee - we can’t recommend shaking enough (good work out for your arm too!)

      4. DIP IN THE CENTRE

The centre of the glue dot contains the glue which has had the least amount of exposure to air (remember moisture in the air is what cures our lash glue). So by inserting your extension into the centre of the dot as much as possible you will be getting the freshest glue.

READ: ONE OF THE MOST COMMON CAUSES OF GLUE ISSUES

      Yo, Derik here.

This is a quick blog to touch on an issue I hear every so often from people with glue problems (believe me, I've heard EVERYTHING).

      5 SECOND SCIENCE LESSON:

Let’s review quickly on how glue works. We’ve got so much information on our site explaining it all, this is not in this blog. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check it here:

      + heaaaaps more.

So it’s water that makes our glue work. When we train our students, we say we need to get the humidity in the right range for it to work. That’s completely true, but there could be an instance when the humidity machine (hygrometer) says everything is fine, but the glue just isn’t working. WTF, it must be shitty glue! Nope, there’s just something you might not understand about water and humidity.

      RELATIVE HUMIDITY...STAY WITH US...

My job is all things science, so let’s do another science lesson, yay! Don’t worry, it’s not that complicated. The subject today is Relative Humidity. Relative to what? Why is it shown as a percent (%)? Simply put, how much wood could a woodchuck chuck…just kidding.
How much water does the air have compared to how much it could have? That percentage is what the hygrometer shows.

Hot air can hold more water than cold air. Hot air is like a bucket. Cold air is like a shot glass. If you filled up each container halfway, the machine would say 50%, but one container has wayyy more actual water there. Remember that we’re doing science when we’re lashing. We need water to set the glue, but more specifically we need the right amount of actual water.

Let’s do a practical example. Let’s say you are baking a cake. You need the correct amount of flour in your cake relative to the other ingredients. How much actual flour you put in the mixture matters. How much actual mixture matters depending on the size of your cake pan. In this example the cake pan is our room temperature. A warm room is a big cake pan, a cold room is a cupcake tin. You won’t be able to feed the whole birthday party of snot-nosed little brats on one cupcake, you need a whole cake.

Some lash techs read the hygrometer and it says 55% and think they’re all good, but the lashes aren’t sticking or coming off later when they brush them. It could be that the room is too cold. There isn’t enough actual water in the air to make the chemical reaction happen. The cold air can hold 100 units of water, it actually contains 55 units of water (55%). The adhesive needs 80 units of water to work properly. So we heat up the room and add more water. The warm air can hold 150 units of water, it actually contains 80 units (55%). Same reading on the machine, but with drastically different results.

So get your room environment in the right range 21ºC, 55% humidity for the results you’re after.

That’s it, not too complicated, but could save you a few headaches when it comes to getting your glue to behave 😉
