#52 - COULD YOUR DEBONDER SEND YOU TO JAIL?

Removing lashes is an important skill to have as any lash tech. I wanted to talk to you all about the stuff you use to do that. Some recent events have brought to light a popular chemical used in glue removers.

There is a chemical in some debonders called 'Gamma-Butyrolactone', or GBL for short. In some debonders, it is almost entirely GBL in the bottle. Unfortunately, this chemical is pretty dangerous stuff. There’s a whole bunch of science-y stuff, but I’m not even going to go there. Here’s the skinny: It’s ecstasy in a bottle that is used sometimes as a date-rape drug, and people just generally getting high.
The bad news for lash techs is that GBL as a glue remover works really well and it can get you arrested and put in prison if you have any....yes ANY of it.
The Australian government lists various substances and drugs in order of regulation and harm from 1-10, 10 being the worst. It’s called a schedule. Heroin is a schedule 9 substance. GBL is schedule 10. Woahhhh that's pretty intense right?
The Australian government has been cracking down hard on GBL in recent times, so even 1 bottle can get you in serious trouble. It has happened in Australia - we are not going to name names - just trust us - that you could actually face arrest and worst case jail time - just for ONE bottle...
Just think of how much trouble you’d be in if you were caught with a bag of heroin on you. Debonder with GBL is worse than that…
So if you are buying debonder randomly off the internet, beware that you could be opening yourself up to legal trouble if it’s the wrong kind. It is also considered even more of a crime if you are importing it (just one bottle).
Australia, NZ, and Russia all have GBL as a prohibited substance. If you’re getting your debonder from any other country it will most likely have GBL in it. I’m not sure if Orange is the New Black, but the cops might see if it suits your colour palette.
Unfortunately there have also been cases of overseas manufactures changing their ingredients list to state no GBL, when under testing, GBL has been present.
Lucky for YOU, Locks Lash has debonder that is GBL free, and works well. So you can rest assured that no one will be getting high while you remove their lashes! No jail time for any of you beauties xxx
